Kaanakanmani breaks the barriers of religion

Ashly Bungalow in Peerumedu has been throbbing with life from the 18th of June with the shooting of the Malayalam movie Kaanakanmani by Akku Akbar with Jayaram and Padmapriya in the lead. Roy and Maya belonging to two different religions have had a love marriage. They are blessed with a six year old daughter Anakha. It is still an extended honeymoon for Roy and Maya, who are like two souls lost in love, rather than just husband and wife.

Though the ugly face of religion has never posed a menace in the life of Roy and Maya, there have been occassions when knowingly or unknowingly, minor issues have cropped up, all thanks to Maya's grandmother. Maya's grandma cannot let go the age old customs of the conventional Brahmanical tradition.

The problems surface when the pertinent question is raised regarding the child, as to what should be her faith. How they realize that love is the binding faith and how the child herself is instrumental in making that realization dawn upon them is the crux of the whole story. While Jayaram essays the role of Roy, Padmapriya comes as Maya and Baby Nivedita as Anakha. Sukumari essays the role of the grandmother, while Biju Menon will be seen as their family friend and Vijayaraghavan as the father of Roy ( Jayaram).

Mammootty's Pattanathil Bhootham July 9

Mammootty’s big budget entertainer Pattanathil Bhootham release has been postponed to July 9. The graphics work of the film is taking time, which is the cause for the delay. It is one of the most ambitious projects for Mammootty and the graphics of the movie is being created using cutting edge technology which hasn't still been seen in the Malayalam industry.

Pattanathil Bhootham is directed by Johnny Antony and is being produced by Benjamin and Kutty Krishnan of HibrightFilms. Mammootty will appear in a double role in the movie which is his conceptual brainchild. The family entertainer has been scripted by writer duo of Sibi K Thomas and Udhay Krissna.

Lohithadas passes away

If the untimely death of Michael Jackson rocked the world, then how do we mourn the loss of the master writer and director Lohithadas, the story teller par excellence. The members of the AMMA fraternity were holding talks about their future plan of action in Ernakulam, when the news of Lohithadas' death came as a jolt from the blue.

Ambazhathil Karunakaran Lohithadas (A. K. Lohithadas) died yesterday, June 28 following a massive heart attack at around 10:50 am in the morning. He was admitted to Lisy Hospital in Eranakulam after he complained of a cardiac arrest. Lohithadas stands tall on account of his stories rooted firmly in the Kerala milieu.

All his scripts and movies bear the indelible stamp of his mastery. Having rightly gauged the pulse of the audiences through his scripts for movies like Thaniyaavartanam, Kireedam, Dasaratham, His Highness Abdulla and Kamaladalam, the writer turned to direction with movies Bhoothakannadi, Kastooriman, Aarayanangulde Veedu and Nivediyam.

The film fraternity mourned the loss of the ace craftsman, who always preserved the spirit of Kerala and the life of the Malayalees, be it the social, political or cultural issues. Mammootty fondly said, “ Lohi had understood my strengths and weaknesses and created characters that suited me. He told human stories which had the smell and feel of Kerala.”

Lohithadas will be cremated in his native place Lakkidi in Kerala today with all the state honours..

Mammootty's double role in Paleri Manikkam

Paleri Manikkam by Renjith with Mammootty in the lead role is a crime thriller with a CBI officer probing into a murder case which had occurred in the 1950s. The movie is based on a story by T P Rajeevan which appeared in the Mathrubhoomi weekly in the 1960s. The story itself is based on the real life murder case that rocked the Kerala scenario in the 50s.

An interesting aspect of the movie is that Mammootty will be seen in a dual role as that of a CBI officer who comes to re-investigate the case in 2009 and a feudal Muslim landlord who lived in the 50s and is linked to the crime. But there would be no connection between the two characters. Many new artistes have been chosen for some key roles in the movie like Mythili as Manikkam.

Sreenivasan, Vijayaraghavan, Siddique and many other eminent artistes can be seen in key roles in the movie. The shooting of Paleri Manikkam will commence on July 3 at Mookambika temple.

The shooting of the movie has been mostly in and around Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. Mammootty's Playhouse will undertake the distribution of the film, Rithu.

Bhramaram - Review

Director Blessy has teamed up with Malayalam superstar Mohanlal in the movie Bhramaram. Although he has selected a simple story, he seems to have brought out lots of emotions, fabulous frames and some haunting moments. If he had a taut script, the movie could have been even more interesting.

The movie Bhramaram is about an illiterate jeep driver, whose character is unpredictable and changes from time to time. After long time Mohanlal has appeared in a jeep drivers get up, which seems to be totally different. His power-packed performance is the real strength of the film.

Bhramaram is based on revenge, but director Blessy has failed to keep on the mood as the film progresses. The film lacks a concrete story. In the second half everything seems to be going out of control. It seems to be a road movie with the second half almost fully a journey and what happen in between.

The first half is a little dragging and it bores the audience, but the second half with its action and F1 race sequences makes them tighten their seat belts. Although there are some unnecessary fight scenes, the action scenes have been brought out pretty well.

Sivankutty (Mohanlal) comes to meet his childhood friend Unni (Suresh Menon), who fails to recognise him. Sivankutty introduces himself as Jose and later becomes friendly with his kid. The rest of the story revolves around flash back, which will form the core of the movie.

Mohanlal has delivered excellent performance; especially in action scenes, his expressions are quick and effective. Bhoomika appears in a very few sequences. She does not suit the role of Mohanlal’s wife, instead she looks like his daughter. Comedian Suresh Menon and Lakshmi Gopalaswamy could have been more effective with better dubbing. Muralikrishnan has done wonderful job as Alex.

Mohan Sithara’s music is melodious and it can be rated as average. The song 'Annarakanna Vaa…' is another highlight of the film. Ajayan Vincent’s camera work adds to the mood of the story in a huge way.

Bhramaram is a voyage movie with great performance

Director: Blessy
Producer: Raju Mallyath and Sulfikar
Music Director: Mohan Sithara
Cast: Mohanlal, Bhoomika Chawla, Suresh Menon, VG Muralikrishnan, Jayalakshmi, Lakshmi Gopalaswami, Baby Niveditha, and Madan Babu
